I received my Master's in Counseling Psychology from Naropa University and a Bachelor's Degree from Wesleyan University. I have additional training in the following areas: harm reduction, group facilitation, crisis intervention, HIV, and gender and sexuality concerns with youth. My background includes several years of experience working on crisis and anti-violence hotlines and working with adolescents on issues of mental health and wellness. I worked as a counselor with the students at the Boulder College of Massage Therapy. In addition to private practice, I teach Systems Thinking at Naropa University and serve on the board of the Boulder chapter of PFLAG.
Formerly,I have served on Naropa University's Diversity Action Committee, the San Francisco' Department of Public Health HIV Priority Setting Committee, on the board of The Survivor Project, anti-domestic violence organization in Portland, Oregon, and was part of the advisory committee to the Castro/Mission Health Center's transgender youth clinic. I have worked as an anti-tobacco advocate, a trainer on developing "whole person" youth programming, and for seven years in higher education administration.
My approach to psychotherapy is influenced by my meditation practice, anti-violence and anti-oppression movements, Buddhist concepts, the harm-reduction movement, nature and the outdoors, the chakra system and a strong belief in the basic goodness, resilience, and wisdom in each person.
Psychotherapy can be approached many different ways and I believe in finding a style that works well for you. I use talking, creative work, role plays, cognitive-behavioral approaches, mindfulness exercises, chakra systems, somatic tracking and guided imagery to help you discover you strengths and inner wisdom and begin to accept yourself fully.
I approach therapy as a collaborator in the client's process in their journey toward increased strength, wholeness and ability to tolerate a range of feelings. A strong connection between the therapist and client is an important key in healing and growth; the focus is on you and what you need.
Wonderfully guided.
